Classic Pinoy Games

Flashback Friday! Long before the mobile apps and online games, we used to play what we consider now as classic games. Don't we all sometimes wish to go back in time when we were  just kids.

Let's have a flashback refresher with the Classic Pinoy Games we'd play when we were just kids that we should definitely be teaching our kids and the next generation:

1. Patintero - This game consist of two teams with equal number of team members. On the ground, you draw a grid of 2-4 lines divided by a long line in the middle. To start the game, you can flip a coin or 'Jack en Poy to determine who's the 'taya'. The taya team takes their positions in the grid as the line guards, they are only allowed to run within the horizontal and vertical line. All players from the other team will run through the taya team without being tagged. If anyone gets tagged by the taya team, the other team loses the round. The team who successfully crosses the grid without being tagged wins.

Just happy to see them playing patintero #UPIS #kinder #familyday #patintero #larongpinoy

2. Luksong Tinik - This game consist of two teams with equal number of team member. This is played on grasses or on a gym mat. The players from the taya team will start the 'base' by sitting across each other on the ground with their right feet touching. The other team assigns a 'mother' (leader). All the players must jump over the base without touching  it. Every round, the taya team adds an outstretched hand on top of the base. If the player fails to jump without touching the base, the mother can save the player. If the mother fails, the team loses the round and the teams switch sides.

3. Tagu-taguan - This is the Filipino version of hide-and-seek, usually the taya will count up to a certain number before he can find those hiding. This is to give time for the players to hide.

4. Chinese Garter - The two players holding each side of the garter stretched. Players must cross off the other side without tripping on the garter. The garter gradually goes higher as the game levels progress.

5. Tumbang Preso - In this game, the taya is guarding a can with his slipper on top. The other players must knock his slipper off the can. The taya can only tag a player when his can is not in its upright position. The knocking down of the can is the only way for the other players to recover and go back to the base without being tagged easily.

So good to see that there are still kids who play the traditional pinoy games ☝✨ #TumbangPreso #TumbaLata #PinoyGames

6. Langit Lupa - This game has only one taya. Runners must run for the elevated base each time. The taya may only tag a runner who is running on the ground. Whoever gets tagged on the ground becomes the new taya.

7. Piko - In this game, you need to draw boxes with levels starting from 1 up to 10. Each player has their own 'pamato' that they throw within the box of each level. Each player should hop through the box without landing on the line, on the box with pamato, and without falling down. After reaching the last box, the player makes his way back in the same manners, he must pick up his pamato. Everyone who succeeds in the first round proceeds to the next rounds. The winner of the game is the last one standing.
